Factory work/pain
« on: 20 August 2014, 12:03:38 »

I'm so sore it's actually amusing, done a few shifts at Jag Land Rover and my body is not used to some of the moves. I must have put in 1000 bolts yesterday. General rule is if you can survive 2 weeks it gets easier :o

I was put on a line with some miserable buggers who didn't want to know but got shifted to a different one yesterday and they are much more welcoming. Back in on a late today and looking forward to a hot bath and bed straight after.

Any tips from seasoned factory workers?  ;D

In my yoof when I spent upto 16 hours a day in a potato packing plant, I used to see it as a training session.   Especially when we would be doing the 25kg bags.  I feel your pain, but look on the bright side....you will get stronger and you are being paid for it ;-)

Aye it's an income and people are desperate to get into this place so I'm grateful, just can't wait for my body to get used to it!

How did you manage to get straight in there? Thought there was a waiting list.

Tough process, stringent online psychometric test, manual test at the factory and a very long interview. I'm agency for 12 months so no guarantees but lucky to have got in. Theres a new Discovery sport coming thats looks ace, hence the new intake of staff.

Is there a young (25-ish) spark there called 'Tall Paul' ...... I really can't think of his last name. Scar around his mouth where he got hit in the face with a golf bat.

At least one size too big safety shoes (not outdoor boots or your feet get too hot) with gel in soles added. And stretch those limbs regularly. Then sleep for a week then do it all again. ::)

 ;) ;) ;)

When I worked at Hall's Mentholyptus before Cadbury closed it almost 10 years ago I worked nights including 33% shift allowance. I'm now on 36% shift allowance for the shift pattern I'm on but am taking home just a few hundred quid more a month than I did all those years ago.
