'95 Omega B 2.5 TD auto - limp mode?
« on: 10 September 2014, 08:30:46 »

Hi everyone,

I've been reading the board for some time now, but now my Omega has now forced me to ask for some assistance.

The problem:
When starting the car, first couple of seconds it runs well and rpm goes up well, but after couple of second it locks onto ~1200 rpm. I have had the issue for couple of seconds within recent months, but it fixed itself within seconds. Now it seems permanent.

However, sometimes it's revving up for a couple of seconds in random places, while driving in 'limp mode'.
I have also felt the brake pedal being stiff while starting the car.

I have run a paperclip test and only 23 & 92 came up.

23 Accelerator Position Sensor Not In Idle Range
92 Cruise Control Device Circuit Open Or Voltage High // I don't have cruise

I have only tried replacing the fuel filter and it didn't make any difference. I will have more time to check in the weekend so I would like to be prepared.

I have found a thread with similar symptoms by user Maracus, but it might not be the same problem either. I will look into suggestions posted there and also try checking the swirl pot and lift pump according to tutorial here -  2.5 TD Lift Pump Diagnosis/Replacement (though I have a full tank  :()

Do you guys have any ideas what should I be looking at?

Edit:
After some further reading (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=125954.0) I'm thinking toward vacuum pump or piping. I had some of my brake pipes replaced couple of weeks ago. Could this be related to the problem?

I had my TD going into limp mode, turned out it was the gear selector on the side of the box. :y

Thanks for the reply.

If mine goes into limp even while in P, just after starting the engine and revving couple of seconds it should cross out this option, right?

Did some (amateur) checks whether it could be the vacuum system problem.
I turned on the ignition and tried the brakes, which were very stiff. Also tried switching the air flow control (from windshield to feet, etc) and didn't hear the usual hiss sound either.
Can I say for sure that there is a problem with my vacuum system leaking now?

Does anyone have a diagram of the system for 2.5td (96kW)? (haven't searched yet)

Investigate the 23, that could be key ;)

As to gearbox selector, does the right LED ALWAYS illuminate?

Wiring diagram (for U25DT and X25DT) is in the Haynes book of Boolix, about a fiver from egay.

It covers the wiring for it ;)

Ignore the boolix bit, just means "Haynes book of crap" ;D
