Advice on new front suspension needed please
« on: 11 September 2014, 12:27:28 »

1999 2.5 TD estate.

I need to replace the top front strut bearing on my omega, as the car has done 159000 mile and you need to remove the springs to change the bearing, I am thinking that it would be worth replacing the whole unit while it,s out.

What make of shocks and springs do you recomend ?

The car is my every day transport, covering about 11000 mile/ year and is also used for towing both a large car trailer and a 1400KG caravan.

Also wondering about rear springs and shocks, would like to make it a bit stiffer ( for towing).

Not too botherd about price, quality is more inportant. The car has a hard life and don't want to have to replace again for a good while.

Thanks for any advice.

So assuming your not looking for more sporting handling (e.g. small level of lowering) then I would advise to use Bilstein B4 shocks and then Sachs springs and consider maybe a Heavy duty spring on the back.

Top mounts, Lemforder, febi but no experience of these (or Pedders heavy duty for Monaro from monkfish do fit, but are expensive)

Shocks b4 as said. Springs, depends on taste. ....?
