iPhone woes
« on: 18 September 2014, 13:07:21 »

Hi guys,I am trying to transfer my Thunderbird Address book contacts to my iPhone4 using this apparently simple guide, but I'm afraid I fell at the 2nd hurdle., as I can't find info referred to in the guide in iTunes. Can anyone help?

http://itqueries.com/2011/08/08/how-do-i-transfer-contacts-to-my-ipad-or-phone/

Plase bear in mind that I am a numpty when it comes to iPhones. I have already stored the address book in a Windows file as .csv.

TIA

You know, it's the thingamebob screwed in to the whatsit...... ::)

You may have a different version of iTunes than which the how-to was written.  I see that it was written in 2011 so your iTunes may be newer.

After a quick look it seems that the Info button comes up when you connect your iPhone/iPad and then navigate to it in iTunes using the buttons near the top left of the iTunes screen :y

Well I thought I had cracked it, after trying to decode Crapples Itunes (non)Help, a load of contacts appeared on my iPhone! Result I thought, until I discovered that it has put all the e-mail addresses from my computer on it (which I wanted) and kindly deleted all of my phone contacts. No problem, I thought, I backed the phone up in iTunes. So I did, but it only offers a restore of the last backup, which also has no phone contacts.

After hours trying to track down older backups, I found them here: \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ in Windows7, but I am afraid my limited computer skills do not allow me to restore any of the listed backups to iTunes.
Any step by step instructions would be very helpful, as all those written by the arrogant p*&cks on the Crapple forum are useless to numpties like me, and I wouldn't dare ask a question. :-\ :-\ :-\

In gayTunes, on the phone's info page, you should be able to select which backup.

Note, gayPhones are crap with SIM contacts, time to move on ;)

Thanks Jaime, yes i've jumped through all the 'Help' hoops, but no backups are avlbl or listed in iTunes: "This iPhone has never been backed up" or similar.

I have found the backup(s) in Win7, I just cannot fathom how to get them back into iTunes. >:( >:( >:(

Are the backups in the folder that iTunes is looking in for them. As in the newest backup, which is of no use, is that in the same folder as the old ones?

When the phones connected and iTunes identifies it, on the summary page if it you should have a restore from backup option. There should be a drop down box that will let you choose which backup to restore from (providing the backups are where iTunes is looking).
It shouldn't matter if the phones never been backed up before.

If all else fails find the useless backup. Move the old backups to the same folder, factory reset the phone and then plug in to PC. When iTunes offers the option to set up as new or from backup, choose the backup you want

It appears so

When the phones connected and iTunes identifies it, on the summary page if it you should have a restore from backup option. There should be a drop down box that will let you choose which backup to restore from (providing the backups are where iTunes is looking).
It shouldn't matter if the phones never been backed up before.

Yep been there, no backups shown

If all else fails find the useless backup. Move the old backups to the same folder, factory reset the phone and then plug in to PC. When iTunes offers the option to set up as new or from backup, choose the backup you want

They all appear in the same folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Result! On an old XP PC not used for a year I found an iPhone backup, copied it to my new PC, backed up the iPhone, then replaced the backup with the old one, voilą, got the majority back, less those entered this year. :y :y :y
