I have 2 strange noises from car.

1st one is from the engine, sounds like a bearing or pump failing and increases with engine revs, it's sounds wishy woshey with a knock to it, if that makes sense.

The  2nd knock is every time I go over a bump and sounds like it comes from the front, I've changed wish bones and track rod arms a year ago so don't think it's that plus new brakes, it also intermittently wobbles under heavy braking but don't think it's warped brake disc as it's not constant.

Hope someone has an idea as I'm pulling my hair out now lol.

Firstly I would be trying to ascertain where the knock comes from, if it is the rear of the drivers side bank I would be fearful it could be oil starvation due to a blocked oil strainer in the sump. Not wishing to sound alarmist but by personal experience my knock quickly turned into a death rattle. It could be numerous other things and I hope it is but thought fair warning as I know of a few 2.6's had similar problems.

Droplinks a distinct possibility for the other one and quite easy and cheap to fix

Oh dear well I hope it's not a blocked oil, it does come from the drivers side but can't really tell if it's front or rear till tomorrow as I need someone to rev it whilst I listen. I did an oil change last month the second in a year, with good quality oil and an oil flush. When I did the first oil change last year the inside of the engine was filthy and the oil filter had been sucked in on itself and blocked. I've since done 15k miles and this oil change filter was as expected with a little muck but still flowing.

The car still drives fine with all it's power and temp is constand 90 as it always has.
Though when I start it after parking for more than a day I get a puff of blue smoke and a funny sweet smell, then it clears and all fine. Plus drinks a little oil but not much.
I also put a stop smoke treatment in with service but that didn't do much.

Drop links a good idear I'll try that, but prop wait till I get engine done.

If it is the death rattle, would the damage all ready be done or by cleaning out could I save the engine as I love this car and would hate to see it of to the scrap yard. Especially as I have spent so much getting it up to a good condition.

IME of 3.2's, they always smoke on start-up.  Not sure about low mileage versions, but all that I viewed/owned had a puff of blue on cold starts.  I should imagine the 2.6 to be the same.

Again, only in my limited experience, engine flushes on high mileage vehicles tend to do more harm than good.  That said, if it were in a very bad state, who knows what would have been for the best?

I know it the Sod's law and I never know what is best. The car has only done 86k and look great still so will gutted if I dies. Maybe someone has a good 3.2 engine they would sell to me? Is an engine swap easy to do and could I leave 2.6 box in for faster pick up?

Good news on the smoke I won't worry about that to much.

Firstly check oil level immediately and top up as required... smoke on start up is Valve stem oil seals failing... 2.6s of that vintage are prone to it, especially if previously neglected

It was the water pump thank god. Changed it for £30 and is sounding sweet again, very happy right now.

Glad that's all it was and didn't mean to put the frighteners on you, as said 2.6's have a tendancy to eat their bearings so best to look into any knocks swiftly. Still worth dropping the sump and cleaning the strainer when you get the opportunity

Sorry to jump into your post Ady, but this caught my eye as I also have a mystery knock/rattle on a 2.6.

omegod,   Why would it be specifically at the back of the drivers side bank, if it's oil starvation??

Wobble on the brakes is buggered front wishbone bushes. Suggest poly bushes fitted with wishbones on the car..... IF ...... the rearward vertical w bone bushes are still sound. Which is unlikely given how long the fronts lasted.

I do them every 5K .. 2001 3.2 with 140K on the clock ..
