Locking Wheel Nut removal
« on: 21 June 2008, 21:26:18 »

Went to swap the Mcguard locking bolts of the CDX onto the MV6, 3 came off perfectly, 1 (last fitted by a tyre fitter :( ) Shattered as soon as I tried undoing it.

It is the weird 'hexaganol' type key lock.

The outside has sheared off, leaving just the middle bit which is a rough imprint of the key.

Any ideas how to remove?

I've no socket that will fit (even with gentle persuasion) over it.

Cheers

Not cheap, but could come in handy.

There are some of these that are intended purely for removing wheel nuts. the helix is not as pronounced as those I posted. Although I was sure Machine Mart sold them I could find them.

Edit  Isn't Google good!  ;)
eBay where else!  :y

I'm not sure how usefull they'd be without a windy gun.

I have some form of 12 volt version for that, never used it but iirc it cant be used for normal jobs, it spins and when it get's up speed locks and will undoo difficult wheel nuts. :)

The wheel nut shattered into pieces and there is not much metal left to get hold of! :(

How about something like this?

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/20094/Hand-Tools/Pipe-Wrenches/Power-Grip-Pipe-Wrench-14-356mm

Designed for pipe but if the nut is useless then it may get enough grip to get it turning

Are the nuts not recessed though, in which case this, and similar would not work.
