Although by no means as convenient.

Leave sky. You'll get a call asking how they can keep you.

Any recommendations to what box  :) I thought Sky would have put a chip or something in the basic box to stop you doing that  :-\ Still good news though , just need to know what sort to get  :)

I plan to do something similar soon - just scart-to-scart lead from Sky box to a DVD recorder should do it.
If I ger to do it before you, I'll let you know how I got on.

Ive got a similar problem - no longer with Sky and have bought a freeview recorder which works with indoor aerial but I dont get all the freeview channels that should be available.  Wanted to connect Sky Plus box to recorder to use dish as aerial but sky cable is split in two and the recorder only has one port for aerial.  Asked in Currys if there was an adapter I could buy and was told that my recorder uses an analogue signal which it converts (?) and Sky is digital so there is no adapter.  Had I bought a Freesat box it would have worked he told me.

Now trying to get the roof aerial sorted so I can use that.

Sorry for long post but hope this helps the OP.

Yes, if you already had a dish, freesat receiver would have been the way to go  ;)

My Humax freeview receiver popped a message the other evening about wanting to retune....so i let it....it found over 200 freeview channels including 11 HD channels   :)
