V6 Dead Won't start - Immobiliser?
« on: 13 October 2014, 21:21:49 »

As you may be aware, I'm in the process of returning the old V6 back to the road. Came to start her up (after several years, yes, years)

Facts that may be of help:
'96 P CDX 2.5 V6
Plip - early type separate to key - doesn't lock or unlock the car, but does show blinking LEDs, so has some power
Key turns fine, on attaching the battery the MFD lit (showing, of course, 01.01.1994 or whatever year) plus electric window switches illuminated.
Upon turning all the way to start all lights go off, a very small 'click' and silence.

Going by the symptoms I'd say crank sensor - this was the reason for being laid up in the first place, but one was fitted a while later, she started, but by which time she'd been replaced with a FL CDX, so wasn't run again. So in theory the crank sensor's good.

I'd say she's not recognising the key as being the right one. At a guess I'd say the plip wants a new battery, then coding to the car/reprogramming but obviously at half 9 at night this ain't happening!

Any further questions, or support, please feel free. I'm reasonably stumped!  :'(

yep, sounds like Battery / Battery lead related or Starter Motor u/s or jammed. Volt meter time, or at least what do the head lights do when you try and turn it over.

Headlights on, I'll wager it won't even click ::)

This was my first thought. But we're not talking the dimming of lights to barely visible, because of power drain, and you hear the starter motor cough into life a bit, but unable to actually turn the engine over. Like I say, the dash lights click out immediately.

Also the battery has been charged regularly in the garage, and is showing full charge. However, I'm not going to rubbish people's suggestions, so I'm taking the V6s battery to work tomorrow, so in my dinner hour I can swap batteries over with the Turbo Weasel's, just to confirm it's not the battery.

Plan A was to just put the diesel's battery in the V6, but I'm soaked to the skin and bladdy freezing!  :D

Just turned her over with headlights on, and the lights dimmed to to nothing! So looking like battery... now going to run the Turbo Weasel up the drive to try a jumpstart.  :D

PROGRESS!

So, after being told adamantly that the battery was a good one, turns out it clearly isnt!  :D Suits me, so long as I know what the problem, is!

Downside is she only ran until I turned off the starter motor. So some work to do there. Found a fuel line which was leaking a little petrol (must have got forgotten to be nipped up when we did the breathers/gaskets.) so at least that bled the fuel system for us, no airlocks.

Will try again tomorrow night to get her running, hopefully for longer than half a second  :).
