Time to move on
« on: 28 October 2014, 14:27:08 »

After over 252,000 miles and more than 14 years in my ownership, I finally replaced my Omega.  I finally settled on a  2 1/2 year old carbon black BMW 640D M Sport. It took me some time to find the right spec but now I have it, I am chuffed to bits with it. It's awesome and beautiful but just not anywhere near as practical as the Omega! But for practical, we have the wife's Astra.

So old faith' Omega is going on eBay just as soon as I get a fresh MOT on Friday. I had quite a cathartic Sunday afternoon giving it a final valet and polish and I am pleased it can still look so good. It's rather sad that nobody wants these cars anymore.

I can't thank you folks enough on here who have helped me and my car out over the years. A special thanks goes to Elite Pete. I could not have kept it going for as long as I have without your invaluable help. In return I hope one or two of you past and present members have been helped by me.

You have seen the back of it, haven't you :-\

To misquote Clarkson... the designer started at the front and died shortly after finishing the B pillar. His replacement then stuck a blob on the back for a boot lid... ;D

That one is a Gran Coupe. Mine is the coupe; the F13. Same back and front ends though. I actually think the back end is neater than the front. Here is mine

Less than 2,000 6 series cars get registered each year in the UK so you won't see many on the road.

It's a fabulously smooth diesel engine pumping out 313bhp with a 0 to 60 time of about 5.5 seconds. Yet it's supposed to return 51mpg. I have been hoofing it a bit so I'm still in the mid twenties. Emissions are low enough for the £145 road tax band. It has more onboard tech than I have ever seen in a car. I just hope nothing goes wrong! Unlike the Omega, this car is not one for a home mechanic.

Still, I still can't quite believe its mine!

Lovely motor mate. My previous comment was a compliment by the way, as I know what a fantastic engine this is.  :y So much torque makes them a pleasure to drive and the economy is good for a big car as well. Mine (F32) uses a tad over quarter of a tank to get from my house to the lake district or cornwall, both journeys being around 285 miles. Can't grumble at that can you.  :y
I always have the full media package as well, just don't press the SOS button unless you need assistance.  :-X :-[ :-[
You can google a place to visit or nearest chippy from the car and save it as a destination (while stationery of course  ;)) and a host of other toys, far too many to list here. Hell man, bmw assist even knows when you have crashed and how severe it is, and places an emergency call accordingly.  :y

Oh, and contrary to what some people think, the indicators DO work and are used the same as when I'm in the Omega.  ;)

Enjoy it, it's a lovely motor.  :y
