I presume I drill an initial central hole for the bolt, and then just put one bit each side, and do up the big one?

Grease is probably the best answer.

I was going to add that I put a fine wipe of grease on the hole cutter threads and a spray of cutting oil on the cutter.....but you have already cut the hole

Jeremy mentioned some kind of sealant but I can't remember what!!!  

I haven't got to worry because he's said he'll cut my hole and fit the filler for me!!!
