Non Omega advice - VW window?
« on: 30 October 2014, 20:44:16 »

Hi Guys
I'm trying to help my son's girlfriend and her VW Beetle window. We've looked on web, seen YouTube etc but can't find an answer. I’m hoping that I may get some help here.

The driver's window stopped going up and down and an initial web search indicated this was the regulator and a repair kit was duly ordered and fitted. This lasted seconds only, the cable in the motor driven drum got mangled. It was assumed that it had been fitted wrongly so another was bought!!

We fitted this second regulator kit this evening, only to find that it makes a lot of ‘graunching’ noise when driving up and down. Even with the door panel removed and no window to lift the whole thing doesn’t move smoothly. The cable goes tight and loose, depending on the direction the motor is driving.

I’m at a loss what is wrong and would appreciate some suggestions and am anticipating that someone on here may have the answer?!

Thanks, Steve

Ahem...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=126938.0 ::)

Might explain why :-\

I thought I posted, but was losing my mind with frustration!!  Thanks.

I had another quick look tonight and the regulator cable has again come off its drum. This is the second time a replacement has done this and I am unclear as to how or why this occurs. This has happened before the panel is fitted into the door and attached to the window.

The runners have been lubricated with a PFTE spray to help their movement.

Help, I'm struggling here.

Steve

As Tilda suggested on the original thread, you need to replace the complete mechanism, not just bits of it :y
