My mother visited recently. F1 happened to be on in the background. After a lul in the conversation, she demanded to know why there aren't any women in F1.
There are, I said. Theres female team managers, Williams and Force India, there's Female mechanics, numerous in various pit garages, there's female test drivers. Susi Wolf for Williams. Think there's another that escapes?
Not very many though she says. It's a male dominated sport. ....Er, well, yes I suppose it is.
Are Women kept out of the sport? She says.

...Mum. If women where the fastest drivers I guarantee you there wouldn't be a single F1 team that wouldn't have them driving in the top flight imediately. They spend millions to find a fraction of a second advantage over the other teams. Etc etc....
But what about social issues in the lower leagues? Yes that's tricky for all drivers. Money is a major problem in the sport.
Ah, so rich men can get in. MUM. (Ffs) ...younger men are, by default, more reckless than women. That's biological. They take more risks, to the point of being expendable in their own outlook sometimes. (Think Guy Martin/TT Etc. Or indeed any war situation)
Well, yes I suppose. She says.
I told her to stop looking for someone to blame, and accept that men and women are biologically differant. ...disgruntled look.... But what about the suffragettes?
I so look forward to Mums visits.
