Taxi = dilema
« on: 26 June 2008, 23:51:25 »

Hi all , here is my dilema im going to get my taxi licence but in two minds on witch car to plate as a taxi
1. omega 2001 2.2 petrol, with all 99.9% tyres,new cam belt kit,new head gasket,new coil pack,cam sensor.66000 miles. thinking of converting to gas.

2.1998 toyota avensis 121000 miles 2.0 TD. I serviced it 2000 miles ago and up till now it is going great and we got 270 miles on £20. It needs four new tyres and a timing belt.
shuold it be num1 or num2???  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

The toyota.......if your council will allow an already 10yr old car to be plated.......

Reasons.....

It will be more economical on fuel...
Any car you use for taxi work will get wrecked...
A toyota 'should' be more reliable.....

For longatvity (my last Toyota went to 250k on the original engine) and economy it should be the Toyota.  But for a far better looking car that is superbly comfortable for your passengers and has prestige, it is the Omega every time!! :y :y :y

it depends on what sort of work you will be doing.

Town work and the weekends where the car will be full of people who are a little worse for wear - Toyota - Reliability and economy

Airport runs or something a little more upmarket - Omega.

We have about half a dozen Omegas in Plymouth as taxis, all of them on LPG, driving through town on a saturday night i could make a killing with the number of people who think i am a taxi and come up to the window and ask to get in, either that or it is my charisma  ::)

My 2.5V6 was a private hire car a couple of owners before I bought it and has clocked up over 220,000 miles. Still looks good internally with only pedal rubbers really showing any wear.
All down to what sort of clientele you expect really.....out in the boonies with 'normal' people LPG the Omega and use that. In town on a Friday/Saturday night......
