Auto boxes are extremely common in all but the top tiers of drag racing (where packs of slipping clutches are used .. guess what, mimicking the behaviour of an auto box)..

Yes, it's not like coming off the power to change gear is an option at that level!

It's not like wasting a few horsepower is really an issue either.  ;D

Three point something seconds with a terminal speed close to 400 MPH if memory serves.

Some say a full throttle run used to make his ears bleed.

I've just looked it up 3.58 at 386 MPH.......way back in 1984.

There is a video of him coming off the power somewhere.. he decided that 120' on the back wheels was quite enough and bailed out of the throttle for 2 seconds, and still managed an 11 second run ;D
