My son Jon and his wife Elaine are keen photographers. Every Christmas they organise a competition in which all camera owning family members submit their best 15 photographs. These are judged by the whole family and given 3 points for best, 2 points for second and 1 point for third. It's all very slick, involving the internet and folks in Florida. Results are compiled and announced on boxing day.
I submitted a ragbag of pictures; holiday snaps, cars, trains, warships, bridges, a bird, Dan raising a ladder against a wall, and me weighing an Omega gearbox. the gearbox picture members saw last January, it's not a work of art I would hang on a wall, but I was proud of it because I had got the thing off.
To my surprise the gearbox pic scored 16 points out of a possible 18, a competition record. Family told me I looked very happy in this shot. I admitted I was pleased to have got the box off, but was not confident of getting it back on again.
It was good to have won, and I thank all members for their help in in getting the gearbox off, in particular JamesV6CDX for his excellent maintenance guide, and Taxi Al for his encouraging 'it's only 22 bolts'.
I reprint the picture here.
