Ford Fusion (2006) rear wheel bearing. . .
« on: 20 February 2015, 21:46:20 »

Just doing ma's MOT at my garage and she needs a rear wheel bearing. When I did the rear brake shoes I swear they were tapered roller bearings. Euro parts show me a cylindrical bearing. . .

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ford_Fusion_1.6_2006/p/car-parts/car-transmission/transmission-parts/wheel-bearing-and-wheel-hub/?628590061&1&739252aa7ed4974a1ab04fd716fc6bf231bcc999&000370

Am I going nuts and/or am wrong?

The picture looks like a front bearing kit, I think: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_fusion_front_wheel_bearing_kit_f_1201569_c_680.htm

Having said that, somewhere like simplybearings shows the same style bearing for front & rear on the Fusion: http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/index.php?cPath=3_4784_5279

A quick google on the Fusion Owners Club seems to show the same style bearing: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/52917-brake-shoe-replacement-how-to/

They are a tapered bearing but it comes as one unit. The cylindrical one is correct and its a press fit bearing.

Hi guys,

sorry to post on such an old thread but ma's Fusion passed theMOT with the rear bearing as an advisory.

however, the bearings finally shot. got some proper ''wooo wooo wooo'' from the rear  ::)

Am I right in thinking that I remove the drum, ditch the old tapered roller bearings, knock out the races with a drift and then install the cylindrical bearing using the press?

The old bearing will be a one piece cylindrical  unit as well.
Should be remove the 30mm nut, drum off and  remove the circlip, press or beat out old bearing. Refit in reverse order.
It should be obvious when you have the drum off but be careful of the ABS pulse ring. The new bearing kit should come with a replacement .

This is from memory so apologies if wrong.
