Nanny Benz Knows Best
« on: 01 July 2008, 19:00:07 »

Just read a road test on the Mercedes C55.

Now I like these cars, a 5.5 litre V8 and about 367BHP, all in a car the size of a Mondeo/Vectra, make this an ideal hooligans car (pity its not supercharged)

Anyway, naturally it has traction control, but the report said that you cannot fully disengage the traction control system, even when you turn it off at the switch. Apparently the electronics of the car, will only allow partial disengagement.

Am I the only one who is sick and tired of this Nanny knows best mentality. It really pi***s me off.

Yer I like traction control, and I'm sure its helped the ladies of the forum out on one or two occassions on wet roads.

But we men on this Forum need to be able to turn our traction control systems off completely.

I'm sick of 155MPH speed limiters on cars that will do over 200MPH, and Nanny Benz is one of the worst culprits for this.

Am I alone in these views :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

You are absolutely right Optimist 60.There is far to much control in all aspects of our lives, and not just cars.
What is the point of making a car capable of 200mph and then restricting it to only 155.Crazy.
dont agree with your views on women drivers, but i will let you off this time. :) :) :) :) :) :)

I would really love a Morgan Plus 8 Skruntie.
Not 200 mph fast ,but it has great charm and is still quick enough to see of spotty teenagers in a hot hatch. ;D ;D ;D

I've read that the very powerful MB's would be virtually undrivable if it wasn't for the electronic 'help'. Have I ever said I hate TC on my car?

I'm a boring old fart. :)

I use my car to get from A to B in the shortest time and in the greatest comfort I can afford.   :)

I welcome any driver aids and safety features that the kind manufacturers care to provide me with.   :)

I wouldn't be able to drive a car at more than 155mph - don't think I've ever driven faster that about 115.  In the rare event of wheelspin (my Volvo was very prone to that), then traction control is a good thing - my TC has come on about 5 times in 3 years - all on ice.  I've used cadence braking since I first came across it, but ABS can't be bad, can it?  That's cut in about 10 times in 3 years.

I don't know how to (intentionally) go round a corner sideways or do a handbrake turn, and I don't want to.  If the necessity to do these dangerous things ever intrudes into my life, I'll make bloody sure I change my life.  :)

And this isn't an age thing - I've always been boring.  :) :) :)
