Just back from the annual drive to Spain, first time in years without an Omega, took the old Rover derv. All was well until part way through the journey home, just before the Millau bridge the temp gauge climbed and kept on climbing. Shit. Lots of steam under the bonnet but very little water. A word of praise here for the French Autoroute operators, within 10 minutes of using the emergency phone a van was at hand with illuminated signs to protect us from the traffic, even though I was in a lay-by. Another 10 mins the recovery truck arrived and took me to a Massey Ferguson / Renault dealer. Superb service. Never arrive at a French garage at lunchtime, they went home for 2 hours, within 5 minutes of resuming work I was told that the 3 way thermostat housing had come apart at its join in the centre and was not repairable without a new part, not available until Wednesday ( 4 days time ). Being 1100kms from home on a Friday is an awfully lonely helpless feeling. Never mind, us English are a bit more resourceful and never say die. Threw the thermostat away, cleaned the housing and superglued it together, lasted until 50kms away from Zeebrugge, kept adding water and got home. The old girl did 54mpg and is now back in good health with a new 3 way housing fitted. Omega talk now. I saw a Dutch Opel Omega 2.5 V6 with the words 100+ in the front door mouldings, never seen that before. Limited Edition perhaps? Also at the hotel in Orleans a beautiful blue UK 2.6 V6 estate, one of our members ? Anybody heading into Europe the fuel prices at 28/06/08 were;
