Z22xe engine swap?
« on: 10 March 2015, 09:24:32 »

Can a z22xe be fitted to replace a y22xe?

My current car has a broken Z22XE installed.   I want to replace it to get the otherwise perfect car back on the road.  I've found a seller that has a 52 plate with a Z22xe installed but this replaced a Y22XE back in 2008.   Great low mileage of less than 40k but does anyone know what the differences are between both engines that would stop me from swapping?   ie; what may have been changed by the previous engine replacement crew to make the Z22xe fit instead of the Y22xe ?

My own car is the 2.2 auto, just in case it makes a difference.

Cheers in advance.

Nope.  Totally dead.  New lump appears to be the best option now.  I'm loath to scrap it as everything else in the car is tip-top!

Engines are the same, only difference i can see is the let manifold is listed different for the Z & Y engines

Use the stripped block, ie head & block assy and fit all the old manifolds etc

Cheers

Ah, right.  I was wondering if the codes were different for the auto or manual boxes.   From that point of view - is there anything I need to watch out for.   That is, will a lump from a manual just drop into the auto?

The coding is to keep our friends in Europe happy. Z & Y have different emissions so the inlet manifold and ecu are differnt

No difference between manual and auto so drop the other lump in and use all the old bits to bolt back on

That's great news guys, thanks.   I think the current engine I was looking at has now been snapped up by someone else, so I'll need to get back out there looking.

I'll update this posting when I've made some progress.
