Hi all.

I'm buying another Omega and it has an LPG system installed. I was wondering if anyone knows how this affects your insurance? I want to be prepared before I ring my insurance company.

Shouldn't affect it, but the may ask you for the Certificate.

The updated situation is that the certificate has been replaced by a web site. If the car is listed on uklpg.com then that proves (absolutely nothing mechanically ) that the car passed an isle tino at some stage. Your insurer will need to visit the site for proof.

There may be a receipt in the history which is all the physical evidence the owner gets.


You can check yourself with cars reg before you buy I believe. ;)

If there's no cert (or, rather, if it's not on the UKLPG database) then they may well refuse to insure you.

Then you probably shouldn't have a license as you're clearly blind to miss the second filler and/or tank  :P :P ;D

Is the car on the LPG Register?, if so they should be able to confirm from that.

Otherwise its a re test of the LPG to get the ticket (or I put on the system) if you want to tell them.

Fairly sure these days if its on the system as LPG, then it should show up as Duel Fuel when you do a search on the Vehicle Search Gov Site thingy, ie, the one that checks Tax / MOT.

No it's not on the register. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have an lpg system inspected by an official installer?

My insurance company (lv) stated they didn't require any paperwork ref lpg for my last lpg car

It's an hours work to test it iirc. So the price depends on the hourly rate of the garage concerned ime.

I'd also see what your insurers requirements are first. Before spending a penny. And obviously see if the car runs on gas at all, by letting it Rev out and idle on gas once it's fully up to temp,

It is quite variable. None of my last 3 insurers wanted a certificate. The price can vary too. Mainstream insurers like direct line, aviva, more than would not even quote me.

Testing costs about £85 - £100. The bigger issue is what the testing will unearth and how much it will cost you to put right. Don't expect a test and your car to automatically pass. bit like the MOT, a lot of so called testers will be looking for work to do on your car. Of course there are some very decent testers. Depending on where you are based, I could suggest some.
