Rip off motorway services
« on: 21 March 2015, 19:30:28 »

On my way back from an immediate booking to Gatwick....fuel computer showing 40 miles to go as I approached Reading services on the M4...that's about 45 miles to Swindon....I know a car will carry on going after the computer says 0.....but did I feel lucky....ummm didn't want to risk it....so popped into Reading services.....£129.9 for diesel  :o I put a fiver in it as I can get diesel in Swindon for £114.9.......15p less a litre....wot a rip off  >:(

Thats the price of convenience. The likes of Burger King bump the prices on service stations as well.

But then they all have to pay a highly inflated rent/lease.

For my money they've been a rip off from the day the first one opened.Unless truly desparate I avoid such places like the plague.Bring back the good old "greasy spoon"transport café too!

i never use a motorway station unless for a coffee.
only time i would fill up there is on company fuell card .

rather doing the 5 miles up the motorway to save 5 p per litre.
well i usualy fill up anyway as soon it going to half. like a full tank in case of need. ;)

You still get them on the old A roads quite a lot. I prefer them to "services", as well as they are much cheaper.

Seems an age since I last saw one but it's good to know some are still alive and well.It was always said you could tell a good one by the number of trucks parked outside.

For all their faults, Mcdongals are pretty much the same price everywhere, unlike Burgerrobkingstabards... Even if flame grilled microwave tastes better... ::)

Kentucky Fried Rat offers the best value - even at motorway services, a chicken burger, a couple of hotwings, beans, chips and a drink is under £6 :)

Maccers coffee is good and cheap!  :y  You have to leave it for 3 hours, for it to cool down enough to drink it though!  ::)  ;D

Not sure if it is still the same, but, going back to the 80's Coach Drivers could beat the que and ate free, showing your (PSV) badge and signing the book; two of us regularly went to Washington Services for a meal, in our car........... ;) ;) :y

Gawd you'd have to be desperate to eat McDonalds food. I would sooner starve.

BK I can put up with, at least it vaguely represents the product it's supposed to be but even then, one every four months is about the limit for me.

Usually take my own lunch and claim the full £3.00 allowance for a coffee - there's only one Motorway services I've ever been to in the UK where a Starbucks / Costa medium skinny latte is less the £3.00 so I think the company I work for needs a reality check!  ::) If away for more than one day we can claim for lunch, usually end up finding a supermarket or similar instead.
