Strange noise
« on: 30 March 2015, 22:33:51 »

Evening all
I will try and describe this issue the best way I can.
Since Saturday my car 2.6 mv6 saloon has developed a strange noise from inside the cabin.. Coming from the drivers side footwell to the top of dashboard . It's best described as a car not running on all cylinders.
From under the bonnet all sounds as it should. Confirmed by the attendance of the rac to check it over.
He scanned the car and found the following fault codes.
P 0430
P0420
P0650
P 1700
P0500
The eml bulb has been removed, obviously to hide the fact of the codes.
The car seems to be running fine, it's got the same pick up, but just feels a little bit more laboured in getting there.
Any ideas...?
Thanks

Precats both sides, standard factory fitted fault codes for a DBW v6 ;D
0650 is because the eml bulb is missing, so only actually two codes worth mentioning...

Check out the maintenance guide index for the codes :y

Will this be meaning both pre cats are oppsed..? Any solution to fix..?
Could it also be causing the more diesel sounding car inside..
I was thinking it sound like a pressure build up somewhere..?

Nah, precat codes can be ignored indefinitely  :y They're the most likely reason that the eml bulb has been removed/blown... long term solution is to move the front lambda sensors to behind the main cats, short term solution is to fill it with a tank of Shell V Power and two cans/bottles of Wynns Petrol injection system cleaner, rag* the living daylights out of it and repeat. Then recheck the codes... precat one might then disappear for a while. :y

* ragging means getting  maximum of 240 miles from the tank ;)

Not sure what to make of the 0500 :-\ but a transmission fluid/filter change should sort the 1700 :y

Sounds like a usual build up of odd codes to me. I've had most off those over the years with no real consequence.

Important thing is to clear the codes and see what codes come back up, thus ypu know they are current and not historic.

Pre cat is normal as said. Google Oof for 0420 0430 and I bet the fix will come up, involving welding in new bosses and fitting the seconds lambda post main cat to clean up the gasses.
