Solar powered manned flight
« on: 31 May 2015, 11:22:48 »

Small beginnings but still impressive.

Even the human feat of staying alert? for six days on your own. Rather him than me.

I suppose if it ditches there will be an inflatable raft with all mod cons. ;D

Yes, especially when the crank sensor packs up as you are left hanging around up there all night with no propulsion. ::) ::) ::) ::)

They had to abandon their stop in Hawaii until a better weather window appears.

At this rate I might get to see it later on this month ::)

Blimey! 26 knots indicated airspeed. He really is at the mercy of the weather. It's bad enough in a glider sometimes, where I've been going backwards at 60 or 70 knots IAS at altitude.  :o I guess you only get anywhere by finding tailwinds.

Just seen how they would cope with ditching at sea. Due to the high possibility of electrocution  :o if they stayed on board he has to bail out. Parachute is built into the seat for comfort.

What a superb engineering project.

Lots of live data on that website.

Saw this at Payerne Airshow in Switzerland last year. Looked awfully flimsy, like it was made from cellophane and balsa wood. Doesn't run on JP4/JP8 so that's where my interest in it stopped.

I bet they burnt a fair bit of that rushing the ground grew and special hangar over to Nagoya, though, so they haven't abolished fossil fuels quite yet. ;D
