When you're hearing starts to go.....
« on: 03 June 2015, 19:28:03 »

....there can be some very funny moments. I just looked up at the telly in confusion because of the Steve McQueen moment you get after visiting the dentist. I think she must have said squeaky clean.  ;D

As I'm almost deaf, my family rip the pi$$ out of me as I'm always mis-hearing what is said. I'm not even close to getting it right for much of the time.  ::)

I would not be safe on Jury Service as the evidence that I'd hear would be completely different to what the others would hear.  ::) ;D

My actual hearing, ie, volume, is fine. It's just the clarity bit....now and again.
I'm wondering whether I should tell one of these cold callers that I might be eligible for an industrial injury claim because of the fickin noise the wife makes.  :-\

Alan...I have to say, I would never have said you suffered from deafness until you told me. We seem to communicate normally

I'm completely deaf in my left ear, have tinnitus in the same ear, mis-hear in what little hearing is left in my right ear so it can be very embarrassing at times.
When someone speaks or I hear a noise I always look to the right, as every noise comes in from my right. People who know this say "I'm over here you deaf bastard".  ;D

I catch some bits Tony and hope I've got it right. I'm sure I must have given a few wrong answers.  ;D
TB knows I'm deaf so he waits until he's on my right side.   ;D
I can just about cope on one to one but, pubs and restaurants I have no chance if there is the slightest background noise.  :(

I do suffer in the same pub, restaurant enviroments as you. Background noise means I only see lips moving with a small amount of the conversation being heard.
I think it is the result of working with very noisy machinery years ago. I often get accused of shouting. :(

Think it's also your/my brain age. I used to be able to follow what was on the telly as well as listening to someone talking to me. Now it's one or the other.

Very true that. If I'm focused on the TV I blank everything else out. First indication I get that my mrs is trying to speak to me is when she shouts or launches a cushion at me.  ;D

Hmmm....just to take it a bit further, and without wishing to bore anyone, if I am in bed and everything around me is quiet, my hearing is perfect. So I can actually 'hear' very well, I just can't separate all the different sounds very well.
