is using on trial and where they were purchased

Just out of interest has anyone ever used an alternative to the GM black goo? 

I'm not talking bathroom silicone or anything like that but a different brand of automotive sealant such as Hylomar, which would be half the price of GM goo.

Given how rarely it's done, I think it's worth the little extra.

I want to try the AGP gaskets, I need to replace a lazy lifter in the 3.2.

As it's not doing big miles, it's worth a punt.

I had a noisey litter in the 2.6 , 3 oil changes and Wynns
lifter treatment solved it . Use it every oil change now

Mine has failed/suck, it's also only when hot, not cold. About 4 oil changes, a can of Whnns and 10,000 miles. It's still there

Yep, I've used the Loctite equivalent (598, If memory serves) and it's been fine.

I'm still using the same tube of VX black goo I bought four years ago for the cam covers - it's just starting to turn in the tube.. which is amazing, I've never managed to make a tube of anything like it (e.g. Hylomar/Loctite) last more than a month or two once opened

(I've used it for two lots of cam cover jobs, resealed someones Lotus sump with it, all sorts..)

Yes I've had the same tube of black goo for years and it's still usable. 

It's always worth knowing about alternatives though, especially when things like this usually have to be ordered.

black sealent purchased this morningcost £6.50 from gm,not too terrible,o-rings around 83peach,not so good.

Yes loctites equivelant range as said. Might even be a loctite product in the gm tube

Just spoke to AGP , he'e ringing me back with prices on the O rings as they have none in stock atm . Very helpful , think his name was jason

And how do you Know which one it is 

Won't know until the plenum, inlet, cam cover and cams are out, but MasterDTM thinks it was on the passenger bank. Even identified it while being about 10 feet away from the car
