Auto Gearboxes
« on: 10 June 2015, 12:30:17 »

I've just done the gearbox swap (AR25 to AR35) on my 2.5TD and all went swimmingly apart from the selector rod that goes from the bottom of the selector to the gearbox switch is to long!! It's almost like its 2" too long! The holes won't line up and we've tried lining it up in all gears and the elongated hole just won't line up! Very annoying!

Are the bars different between automatic Omegas?

The rod should be the original as fitted to the car, you disconnect it at the selector switch.

Yup did that, disconnected the rod at the bottom of the gearstick on the AR25, the AR35 had a rod connected to it already but will not line up! It's very odd tbh, we've tried every gear and position but it's not having it...

Ah, hang on... Should I have disconnected it from the gearbox and left it connected to the car? Then connected back onto the 35?

Seems that way to me  . . . . you need the rod that was fitted to your car  with the old gearbox, as I read it  :y

Yep, gearbox alignment in the car depends on the engine type, so you need the rod originally on the car.

So what you need is a rod from a gearbox that WAS fitted to a diesel lump?

Got a rod on the removed AR35 from my 3.2 breaker  . . . but guessing thats no good to you ?   :-\ :-\

In fact probably what you have already got  :-\ :-\

Can you shorten what you have and weld it back together?

Cut n shut simples.

Reason there is a difference is that the diesel is a straight six so considerably longer than the V6, as a result its mounted slightly further back in the engine bay. The auto box shifter is always in the same place so the connecting rod lengths are different to compensate.
