Both Coil Packs going at once..
« on: 14 June 2015, 13:24:27 »

So i have replaced the 2,4,6 side, with new plugs,
Ran great for a day, now 1,3,5 are playing up.

Am i that unlucky? or is this quite common?

Did you replace the plugs or the plugs and the coil pack?

Do the coil pack(s) look damaged in any way?

Well, 135 is the fish easy side, so 20mins and a new cp and plugs won't hurt.

A quick examination won't hurt first either though. Will answer your questions. :) breathers clear? Cam cover seals ok? Scuttle sealed? ....usual stuff.

Did the Plugs and the coil pack. No4 plug was loose...

Scuttle is ok, breathers fine, thinking about doing cam covers anyway...
And i have to do the plugs on 1,3,5 so might aswell chuck a coil on there.

The old 2,4,6 coil had some rust underneath. I suspect its never been changed so prob the same for both.
There's Lpg stuff in the way too.

Ah LPG. Do you have a reader to access fuel trims?

Might just be loose plugs on 135 as well....?

Fuel trims are a measurement used by the drive by the wire 2.6/3.2 cars Ecu to measure the amount of adjustment made to the fuel mixture. So you have a normal reading of zero, with a variance of + or - 25 (%i think) before the Ecu will raise a fault code and bring the light on. Edit to add, the trim aspect is the amount of "trim" added or subtracted to achieve the correct mixture.

On petrol the driver will likely notice little difference as the Ecu is adjusting to what it thinks is the correct mixture (depending on the fault of course) but brings the light on with 0170 / 0173 as an error. Say for a border line maf fault.

However on gas, the fuel trims are much easier to deflect off and tricker to keep in range within that +/- 25 error.  Gas is also harder to ignite. So of the trims are drifting off on a long term average there may be a point where the fault was raised and a miss fire caused as a result.

Are you aware of the pedal trick?

Are there any codes other than misfire in the engine Ecu? Actually how do you know it's a misfire ? Should establish that too I guess? :)

Oh, ok, thanks for the info.

Well it ran rough and pedal tricked a 0300, 0304, so did that side, now its raising  0300, 0301, 0303, and 0305 so i have a coil on the way although i realise that might not be the entire problem..

Also an 0420 but that happens every few weeks, as they all seem to, kind of used to it now :)

The exhaust is blowing, so i originally wondered if that might affect it, but as its at the back i figured it shouldnt.

Ok so worth an examination of cp/fit new and check plugs are ok/renew.

But as you say it does seem conincedental. ...could just be a leaky scuttle after heavy rain or lpg drifting the trims off. Or simply luck and just another cp needed.
