Loss of coolant and difficults in getting back to normal temperature in hot days.
The temperature raises to 95cº while running at 80km/h, even gets a little lower above 100km/h.
No oil in water no water in oil, no signs of water in the exhaust system!
The big hose that connects the engine to the radiator gets hard and the leak is not perceptible.
I can see remains of coolant on the engine starter...

I've changed the timing belt kit and water pump.
Coolant changed etc etc.

I've got the main vaccum hose broken, does it matter?

Starter is right ( as you sit in the car) rear in the engine bay, as is the hbv which is sited above it. Heater by pass valve is a very common failure and cause if water leaks on omega.

While the leak may not be too bad, it "may" still be allowing the system to depressurise enough to allow the temp to rise. Although a rise in engine temp is not something I personally would associate with a leaky hbv. ....so it may just be a leak in that area.

Starter still on right... Only steering wheel, brake servo, wiper motor and pollen filter are sided

than i guess it's the alternator...
either way i see remains of coolant on the left side (seated position)

Yes. It's activated by the ac, so to test it needs vacuum and the climate control cycled from hi to lo while checking for coolant leaks.

So I supose if vacuum is broken then the valve won't work.

With no vacuum the valve will only flow through one port. It needs vacuum to move the flow to the other outlet port. It switches flow away from the matrix when ac is on, As I understand it.

You could apply vacuum manually or by other means. Say attach a hose and suck.

I need the hose that goes from the inlet manyfold to the brake servo.

1998(/99?) do tend to suffer hg issues. Usually left side behind the dis PAC bracket behind cylinder 6. But i guess it's best to count out the simple things first.
