2.2DTI
« on: 07 July 2008, 20:19:36 »

Right you switched on OOFERS. I've been waiting patiently for months for an Omega Diesel to come along, I work in car sales so it was only a matter of time. My knowledge of Migs is mainly confined to the 4 pot 2.0's. So I need the guidance of the experienced members. The car in question is a 52 plate 2.2 DTI,CD spec, manual in Silver with 86k on. I can get it on a trade sale for £2500. Tidy car with only minor scuffs on the bumper edges. What do the members think of this engine ? Is it as durable as the 2.5 BMW unit? Do they blow up or have any common problems ?Advice please.

I run one and i think they are great and my last one had done 237,000 miles when i sold it and it still going strong now.
The only thing i found to be a problem on them is that at about 100,000 miles or so the bottom pulley will go and that will set you back about £120.00 trade at vauxhall and takes about half an hour to fit.
I have come across a few that needed turbo units at around 130/140,000 miles.
Make sure its had its service every 20,000 miles and an oil change every 10,000.
I was watching an omega DTI last week on ebay and that had done 335,000 miles and sold for over a £1000 and the most i have seen is 460,000 miles on one so i think it speaks for itself.
The price you can get this car for is great as i have just sold a 51 reg estate DTI CD for £3500 which is about its money.
If you get it you will be very happy :y

Many thanks for the replies. The car is in our paint shop from another garage so I will have a word tomorrow. It's currently got a short MOT and needs 3 tyres that I can see. Sounds cheap until you start making the car the way we OOF people want them. Nice looking car so I'll see if he will trade it, I know he paid £2100 at auction so I'll tempt him with some quick profit.

Happy with mine (touchwood), very nearly 38 mpg in very mixed driving, got 50 mpg on a long run.
Not the quickest - but as commented already, quite adequate once you're rolling.
Very pleasant way to pass m/way miles.
Mine is CD spec, miss having a sunroof (CDX, Elite) a little but these cars don't come up often enough to be too picky, the rest of the spec is pretty good.
Mine is also silver - a little ubiquitous, but again I'm being very picky now.

Verdict? Buy!

Right, I've had a word. Basically he won't part with it on a trade sale, apparently he has 2 customers waiting for a large diesel car. After it's MOT'd etc he is going to put it up for about £3495, too much for me. The search goes on.

Could always try the auctions yourself if you have the cash. :y :y

Visit them regularly as part of my job but being there at the right time is a matter of pot luck. At Central in Glasgow yesterday there were 3 Migs, all 2.2 petrols. I have to have a diesel and don't want to go down the LPG route. We buy from auction every week and even we get caught with the odd bad one. At least with the one in the paint shop I had a chance to get a good look at it. Never mind, something will come along. Without incurring the wrath of all OOF members the Mig has a few mechanical problems as the help pages illustrate, and sometimes only a damn good look and a test drive can show these up. I have a limited budget and have to stick to it, declining income, daughter wants to get married etc.

A little bit of info for you here mate in your quest;

http://217.155.56.220/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1215214912/2#2

Hard bit is finding a low mileage one. Only 2 things ever gone wrong between the two of ours, egr valve & broken spring. Other than tyres, brakes and the usual service items, the 135K one has been a real beaut!

.....and I concur with the others about high mileage, there's a taxi knocking around in York that had about 330k on it when I had the pleasure some 6 months ago....still looks like it came out of the factory  :)

They are a bit more clattery than a 'modern' diesel from startup but settle down a bit when warm  :y

....and be prepared to pay that bit more for a good one, you'll thank yourself later  ;)

Thanks Mark and Davlad. I have made my mind up that it will be a facelift 2.2 DTI manual, not bothered about colour. Budget is very tight so I may be waiting a while.
