Cooking your chips in a pan of beef dripping nothing better, my grandmother was a cook all her life and always cooked with it made the best roasters. She died sadly 92 though.

Was on holiday once in Australia, and saw a café in Jindabyne that was advertising a Full English Breakfast. So in we walked and ordered the full Belly Buster Special. The conversation then went something like...

Me : Can we have extra Black Pudding and Fried Bread instead of bread and butter?
Waitress : I'm sure that'll be alright.

5 minutes pass, and the waitress returns.

Waitress: We haven't got Black Pudding, and chef isn't sure how to cook fried bread.

Startled looks all round, and muted comments about how can it be a full English without black pudding and fried bread as standard. So we attempt to explain...

Me : Well you take a slab of Lard, melt it in a frying pan, get it very hot, and then fry a slice of White bread for a few minutes each side till golden brown.
Waitress: Ok, I'll tell chef.

5 more minutes pass, and the waitress returns with our meals.
Waitress: Chef says "War's over mate - here's your Wholemeal Bread and butter substitute"

I was told when caring for Maureen,cooking her meals that vegetable oil was better for her than sunflower oil-no mention was made of lard at all.

It appears that vegetable oil is much better than sunflower oil. I shall move over to vegetable oil from now on.

Vegetable oil is good stuff!      I've run a couple of old diesels on it in the past.
