Wife has just left for interview
« on: 10 July 2008, 11:29:18 »

I am sooooooo nervous. It's a big step up for her, from headteacher to lead head, and she wants it badly. I dont really care whether she gets it or not, but I know she will be very down for a while if she doesn't. Everything crossed.

Whats the difference or is it just another invented position in the public sector?

The difference is that she takes over potentially failing schools and tries to bring them up to scratch. Not easy, especially when the likelihood is that staff will be hostile and parents fed up to the back teeth.

Yes......and no. There are lots of great headteachers around. Dedicated and hard working. But taken from their comfort zone, ie their own schools, they may find it hard to cope.
The trick is to be able to identify strengths and weaknesess very quickly and reinforce the strengths whilst developing the weaknesess. As I said, not easy, as that could involve staff dismissals.

You have to be VERY confident that you can pull it off. Self-doubt is a killer in that particular profession.

Has she heard back yet Markie?

In education, they let you know the same evening. No waiting for days for a decision, thank goodness.
