18 squid for an oil filter????
That's likely to be the retail price for one, and of course only mugs would pay that.  The same filter is liable to be a TC item for a fiver.

18 squid for an oil filter????

Remember young bear, only use genuine, pattern not good. This is OOF. :D
If a genuine part is the same price as a pattern part, and invariably of better quality, you'd be a couple of sarnies short of a picnic not to ;), unless other factors have to influence the decision.

18 squid for an oil filter????
It's a special Vx one. If you don't use genuine Vx parts, your car will break. Any dealer will tell you this, Webby.

It will if its a cartridge filter stuck in a time warp spinning casing  :D

This makes sobering reading and is documented on the invoice as a 'small service' to include a complimentary visual health check.

For the Signum and not the Omega.

Here goes. :y

Sump plug washer.............................................................. £2.93 plus VAT.

Oil Filter..............................................................................£18.25 plus VAT.

Vauxhall Dexos 5w-30. 6 litres at £9.50 a litre..............£57.00 plus VAT.

It gets worse.

They have also charged for 1 hour of labour.....................63.75 Plus VAT

Environmental charge .......................................................£9.00 Plus VAT.

Subtotal Total....................................................................£150.93 Plus VAT.

Grand total........................................£181.11 for an oil and filter change. :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

WTF are they charging £10.80 inc. for?

Ron.

I think that £57 an hour for a main stealer isn,t too extortionate compared with some others. ???

STEMO, I hear you, but that is gross overchatging; don't they sell all the old oil on to the recyclers anyway, so there is no need to make any charge at all......

Ron.

No, you pay the recycler to take it away. Just like you do with all the other waste that garages generate, like tyres. Now you know why you often see piles of tyres that have been fly-tipped.

Although at least waste oil can be burnt for winter heating.

Waste oil you can get taken away for free, its the other items which take a bit more getting rid of.

A garage will pay a monthly fee to the likes of Oakwood Environmental who will handle all the waste such as antifreeze, oil, oil filters, pumping out of catch tanks etc.

But that charge is very steep!

Wifey's megane was serviced by the local back street mechanic recently. Oil+filter, air filter, front discs and pads renewed. £280 with vat.

You've decided to keep it?
