As some of you will know from the lakes meet, myself and Mick dundee needed some parts. The nearest dealer was in Kendal about 40 minutes away, it was saturday and they closed at 12:30 and it was 12:05 :o I phoned the dealer and checked he had the parts in stock, he had so I told him we were on our way. Captain Zoc was chauffering so we set off. we were about ten minutes away and it was 12:25 :o so I phoned the dealer again and told a little fib I said we were only a couple of minutes away ::) to which he replied "thats alright I wasn't going to leave until you got here". when we got there he invited us behind the counter into his office so as we could identify the relevant parts on the computer. He was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I asked if they sold carb cleaner which they didn't, however he disappeared into the workshop and returned with a brand new tin and said thats "on the house."It came time to settle the bill so I asked him if they took trade club, which they didn't but he said he'd put it through as a staff sale which worked out even cheaper than trade club :) So we were very pleased with the service that we got, so it just goes to show not all VX dealers are a PITA :y :)

lol  ;D Its funny when you talk about VX dealers otherwise I'd be crying.

Bought some rear brake calipers, two of them are different colours, guy wouldn't take them back because there was nothing wrong with them other than the colour, so i have nice silver one on one side and a gold one on the other.

I guess it will go with the vx dealers black and blue eye if they give me anymore wrong parts.

Oh well Ironingboard, at least it makes your car unique and identifyable!! ;D ;D ;D ;)

Me driving my car makes it identifyable enough  8-)

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y  That can sometimes be a disadvantage though! ;D ;)

IME, independents are the best.  Bridge at Banbury, esp parts, I find incredibly helpful.

Fairs. fair, not all of them are right enough!  I had a brilliant one, Patchway Motors at Patchway Bristol who looked after my ex's and my company cars as well as our private ones, and were always extremely helpful and just sometimes very generous.

To start with they gave us a special "Trade" discount for everything we bought (mind you one way and another we spent many thousands with them over 18 years, including buying cars!),  But I remember one ocassion with my Elite I needed two new cats; £800 in total (in 1999)! :'( :'( . However because they wanted to keep my custom they sourced special "factory reconditioned" ones direct from Germany, that actually were new, for just £200 each; £400 the pair, and that was with fitting.

So no there are some great dealers out there, you just need to find them! ;)

It may have  been mentioned before, but how about us members rating our local Vx dealers, and others,  on a pre-agreed scale, to build up a map of what's available out there?  :-/ :-/ :-/

I know exactly where that one is, :y

I had a good experience with my local VX dealer i turned up at 10pm one night with my Astra (ECU had died) on the back of a tow truck, manager was there doing the books and helped us push the car into the pound, I did end up speanding £800.

We should all remember that there's a very good, knowlegable parts dept in Bury St Edmunds that wil post out the part you order. The biggest difference is that, unlike a lot of the other dealer's parts staff, he has an interest in the parts he sells, which is why if Vauxhall don't still sell a part he will contact Opel (admittedly this is more applicable to older Vx/Opels)

I don't really have any problems with 'my' parts dept either. The only slight problem is that there are only 2 of them, years ago there used to be 3, and you're often waiting & waiting & waiting ...... >:(, and that's both on the phone & in the actual dealers.
