Two MOT`s and only One Problem........
« on: 15 July 2008, 11:44:18 »

But I am not sure best route to fixing it... :-/

clit flew through after doing the brakes at the weekend, no advisories.

Jeep - after 3 months of work ( it came in as a project with a two page MOT fail sheet) has failed on two ( new things)

Handbrake osr little or no effect ( easy fix)

More concerning it failed its emissions  :(

So i am thinking that it must really be Lamba /02 Sensor related?

Can anything else bring the emmissions down - servicing? Lotions and potions or could it be another part?

is it a deisel markie ?? if so forte fuel treatment is very good but the best way to use it is to change fuel filter and fill filter with treatment before you fit it then gets it neat  :y if its petrol then a very hard thrash should clear its throat  :y

Can you post the figures from the emissions printout they gave you?

The Jeep is LPG, isn't it? Was it tested on gas? If presented on gas they must test it on gas, IIRC, and emissions on gas may well be less.

Still, let's have a look at the figures and see what's wrong..

Kevin.....just to get what your saying right in my head...

I took it in on petrol...not gas. Are you saying if i go back and ask to retest today whilst driven in on LPG they must test on lpg?

It does seem cleaner on lpg than on petrol  :-/

We need to see the results....if marginal then maybe cat efficiency due to lack of use.....if miles out then we are looking else where like CTS etc,....

I believe they have to test it as presented, so yes. However, it depends what the failure is so a look at the figures is important. :y

Could be that it's previously been driven mainly on gas and the fuel trims are out for petrol. Could also be a failure of something as Mark said.

Okay.......results by phone tested on petrol  ;) Seems very high to me  :(

Limit is 0.3% i believe?

First test 0.56%
Second fast idle 0.54%
Idle 0.64%

Any thoughts gurus ?

I take it these are the CO figures? If so, and it didn't fail on anything else (Lambda and HC within limits), I would say that it's probably a slightly lazy cat. Worth giving it a thorough "warming up" ::) and re-testing on LPG, I'd say.

To put it into perspective, you probably have about 2% CO coming out of the engine so the cat is cleaning this up to a certain extent, just not as effectively as it should, and for a car that's been laid up, and maybe only started to shuffle around on the driveway, it's not necessarily doom and gloom.

A Lambda sensor problem would probably have given you a heacache with HC and / or Lambda too.

Lamba 1.01 pass
HC 17 ? pass

Looks like its going to get a jolly good thrashing, and serviced - that was on the cards anyway.

Actually now that i think about it am pretty pleased - managed to do every single pad and disc on the Jeep, handbrake shoes, the troublesome cv joint and replaced all the brake lines with a few other bits and pieces along the way.

They will test it on lpg, if its swtiched to use lpg.

I always have my 2.2 tested on lpg.........sometimes they ask if its on lpg.......if they know its running on lpg i believe they lower the pass mark slightly.
