5p bag
« on: 24 October 2015, 23:31:51 »

How stupid is this charge for bags
Today I placed an online order with screwfix £51.3 something I even added the extra to round it up for the charity to £52 paid by card online
Then headed out to collect the order from the store the order was ready to collect and paid for then they asked if I wanted a bag bearing in mind that the order had been picked and placed in the bag ready for collection by them so if I hadn't wanted the bag they would have had to have taken the items back out and thrown it away as it had a slight hole in
I said I would have the bag they asked me for the 5p I had no cash on me what so ever so he said I could pay the 5p on my card which I was going to do but I picked something else up and added that to it so it was worthwhile
No idea how much it would have cost for the card payment for just five pence just seems totally bonkers to me

I went to asda earlier and for the first time ever they had a security guard on the self scan bit, def an agency guy, I got the impression it was more to make sure people were paying for the bags rather than their shopping. BTW if you look closely at their "bags for life" they have two barcodes on, one to buy and one for a free replacement, be very careful which one you scan people  ;D

If it helps stopping plastic getting into land fill then whats the problem?

possibly 30p on a £100 shop is not even worth mentioning, pay up for bags for life and stop moaning  :-\

For some time now, the bags have been made of bio-degradable material; so much so that if you use them for keeping things in, say, your garage, by the time you come back to them they are in tatters. Their arguments therefore are totally specious.
The real reason for this legislation is government greed. As with so many of these measures (CO2 emissions penalties, etc.) they are using guilt and our "concern for the planet" as a means of extracting money from us when the problem does not actually exist.

Now bags are chargeable, you can buy them... £25 for 500. Take four with you each time you shop and claim back any own bag discount. Simples.

We use them for our rubbish, which seems excessively wasteful for the life bags... Also now they cost summat, carriers are a better quality... Certainly the Tescos ones are now a heavier grade 8)

I wasn't complaining about being charged the 5p more the fact that they wanted to put it through as a card payment just for the bag

I do a lot of cooking and baking, and find that good old carrier bags are ideal for dangling off the cupboard to pop all the rubbish in. Bags for life are the wrong shape...

I think its a stupid rule. Once again, misguided do-gooders think it will make a difference.

Realistically, how many of us used the tescos bags just once to get shopping home? We certainly used them several times, from works laptop bags (::)) to small bin liners.

Instead, we are still using the same number of bags, its just we are now actively buying them.

But the mongrel tree-huggers are too stupid to see that, and think its a victory. As always, they need lining up and shooting before they breed.

Too late... Seeing as how they are unemployable in any useful function, they breed like rabid rabbits ::)

Does this mean that, as supermarkets etc., do not have to supply the bags "free" rhey will automatically reduce the price of products, thereby passing the savings on to us?     ::)

The cost of the freebie bags is insignificant, far less than the smallest denomination coin ;)

Allegedly the 5p charge is going to charity? (yeah right).
Also the newer bags don't bio-degraded as well as the previous freebies (progress)
Also TB's call to shoot lefty tree hugging bean chewing, state scroungers, Were do I sign up,  :y
And sod the Kyoto  carbon reduction treaty, polar bears aren't dyeing because of co2 its because bloody people keep shooting them.
