Why do I travel 140 miles round-trip to Serek’s garage?
« on: 08 November 2015, 00:56:23 »

Last Wednesday, I went to his place to have my cam covers changed as they were leaking over hot exhaust and creating embarrassing smoke, and as service was due, had that done to make the journey more worth while.
He fitted the cam covers that I got from someone on the forum, adjusted the handbrake, changed all filters, including the fuel filter, and new plugs too, cleaned the breathers and of course a new oil filter - all for a good price.
I won’t say how much, because price isn’t the only reason: integrity, careful workmanship and trust that a good and honest job will be done are also important factors.
There was a small cause  for concern, however. After the oil change, Serek spotted a small oil leak from the filter, so he re-seated it and it appeared to stop leaking.
On my way home, the "Chack oil level" message came on and when I looked after arriving home, it was off the bottom of the dipstick.
I messaged the next day, asking what was the most likely cause, so that I could get it sorted locally rather than drive all the way back to him for such an apparently trivial problem and - this is the incredible part - he offered to come to me and fit a new gasket at my place, at no cost to me!
Obviously I couldn't allow him to spend all that time away from his business, never mind the fuel cost, so he is sending me a gasket and I'll get my local garage to fir the gasket. Maybe they will charge be less than an hour's labour?
But honestly, what a man! I know of no other business man who would offer to do that and it shows exactly why he is so well regarded on the forum.

Same goes for me,200 mile round trip, but work is carried out at lightning speed and personally I think at very reasonable rates.I have only had to leave a car with Serek once and that was because of a large to do list on it.He's extremely knowledgeable on Omegas, being an owner and has some very useful contacts.I can certainly recommend him :y

200 miles beats my journey, "nitro", but I'm glad you think it worthwhile, too. It's very difficult to find a garage to trust nowadays, as programmes like "Watchdog" will testufy to, so when you do it's well worth going there.
That day was very wet and I didn't fancy walking around the local shops there for several hours and Serek kindly allowed me to sit in his workshop and watch - nothing to hide, you see, not like some places (K-F?) you could mention.....

With so many businesses, not just garages, wanting to shirt their responsibility when something does go wrong, its great to hear those that not only accept they should be resolving it, but even willing to go well beyond and do this.

I've said it before, but worth repeating again now, top marks for Serek/SOS Automotive :y

Must agree with all above and add my personal experience of Sereks work.

Earlier in the year he undertook gearbox oil change for me ,as its a messy ,ackward job .He also resited the 2 back lamda sensors to removing the very annoying EML light .

His attention to detail and thoroughness was emmediatley obvious and the final result was completed efficiently and very cost effectively.

Big thumbs up from me too...a thoroughly decent guy and his crew.  :y :y :y
