Just sorting out a smaller more accessible freezer for my dad. The current one is a chest freezer in the garage that is 35 and a half years old. Only been defrosted twice and never broken down.

Also have a built in combined fridge freezer indoors - thats been replaced twice in 15 years.

My late ex Father in law bought a chest freezer in 1972 and it's still going strong running at -20 Oc .After the ex in laws deaths my daughter bought there house along with the freezer located in the garage. The only repair it has had in all that time is a replacement  lid seal. They don't make them like that anymore !!!

No, Tony, they don't. I dare say it's using a ton of electrickery, but in their quest to make more efficient machines to save the planet, they forgot to factor in the cost of having to manufacture new ones to replace the modern ones that last five years.
