Urgent roads / maps question
« on: 17 November 2015, 11:43:02 »

Need some information

I've just been offered a couple of days work down in Kent (somewhere)
I need to get to the hotel (again somewhere) by 22:00 tonight

I'm looking at from my house ................

M62 - M18 - A1 - M11 over the bridge or tunnel and then on into Kent  ::)

Can any of you lads think of a better way to go ?
Any known hazards or tolls ?
What time does the traffic go crazy / calm down ?

I don't know exactly where i'm going yet  >:( and its been 30 years since i've drove around those parts so other then google maps / sat nav on my phone, I ain't got a clue  :(

All advise welcome  :)

Your route makes sense to me if you add: over the bridge; A2; M2; A299 to Whitstable. Why are they putting you in an hotel in Ramsgate as it's miles away? And at the end of the line ;D

Not got a clue Nick
Probably save about  £1:50
This is going to be great
12 hour shift tomorrow and Thursday
Check out Thursday morning
Finish at 7pm then have to drive all the way home too hull at stupid o clock

I can see me having to overdose on redbull and pro plus to get through this lot.

The things you do for money

PLEASE check payment details for the Dartford Crossing (Essex to Kent) as they should have removed the toll booths now and have changed payment methods - no longer pay-as-you-cross, it is all computer based now and I cannot recall precise details, so please check online to avoid silly and punitive fines.

Yes you pay in advance online now, which when I went through a couple of months ago was huge improvement in traffic flow.  :y

Not sure if you have to pay both ways though.  :-\  I'm sure one of the Kentish/Essex boys will confirm.  :y

Crossing is generally pretty good heading Essex to Kent. May slow to 20-30 mph but still moves. Crossing payments must be made online before midnight the following day.

Ideally I would want to be on the road by now if in your shoes ::)

I'm returning home from Brighton a little after 6 this evening so will wave as I pass!! :y

Finally gone through  :D

Off to top up on red bull and i'm on the way

I'll head down the A15 / A47 and join the A1 @ Newark
That way, I should be missing the shite around the M18 / A1 turn off  :-\

If anybody sees a 15 plate grey corsa heading south with a fat grey haired git driving over the next few hours, feel free to give appropriate hand signals  :y ;D ;D

When ever I used to go to Hull or back, I always used the M1 rather than A1, but then you got to play on the M25 at some later point.  :-\

A15 - A46.....

Although the A15 can be hateful north of Lincoln with to many slow lorries, tractors and little opportunity to pass.  :(

Just in case it helps and you can match these times, the crossing is free of charge between 10 PM and 6 AM.
