Have not done many posts but read others have been a member for a number of years had to rejoin because I could not remember my password not having any issues over the last 3 years till now, Ignition key starting to give problems trying to turn key on when eventually does then difficultly getting key out again, so is this the lock it self or electrical tried both keys same result.

Thanks Andy big probs is getting the key to turn at the moment looking at your pictures it must be in position 1   so looks like a bit of fiddling to get it to engage if not what would the answer be.

If key wont turn could you buy another cylinder and key then insert key into remote as a last resort.

You'd need to swap the little black chip from the fob over to the new key. But if you get to the satge of doing that, it's as easy to dress up the tmblers in what you've already got, or new tumberls are not expensive. http://www.nwkeys.co.uk/Portal.aspx?page=43&cat=131&prod=7389

The cylinder and key kit on Ebay shows a solid plastic handle not the remote type, so thought that using the key its self and replacing the key in my remote if that was possible Andy.

Within this bit clicky of your key is a chip like clicky It's the chip that talks to your car's imobiliser & lets you start it. What ever key you have, you need the original chip somewhere near the ignition barrel for you car to start.

Then you would be better off finding the set that matches your car.


Buy a new lock barrel as worn ones are very common and cause all sorts of difficulties. Do it soon, as they are cheap!

Removing plastic from new key leaving key only and inserting into my remote with chip should do the trick as key is another issue , will only do this if key will not turn if key turns will carry on cleaning it, at the moment I have started on steering wheel may have to make an extractor for wheel blowing a gale outside hope garage roof stays on will start again to-morrow in daylight thanks for the help Andy .

Why are you removing the steering wheel?  Just lub up what you already have & get the original key moving in the barrel.

Swap glove box cylinder with ignition cylinder

It's true, the 'get you home' method (which no car theif would ever be any the wiser, anyway, lets be honest) is to install the never-used levers form the glovebox into the ingnition barrel. There's less levers, so technically less secure, but that's the price for a free repair, at the end of the day, can't have everything.  Gives you breathing space to get another barrel/levers arranged - if you feel the need to.
