Stats....
« on: 01 December 2015, 14:55:42 »

Sadly not some pics of women and their vital stats...  ::)

Thermostats - hear there's GM, Wahler, and others. What do I need to know? Any to avoid? I read there's some with thinner flanges, requiring shorter bolts, ideally like to avoid that, if poss. What's people's experiences and recommendations, please?

Of course if anyone has one and or the transfer pipe please pm me  :)

Ta very muchly in advance, OOFers  :y

And it's so easily solved with a couple of M8 washers under each bolt head that it really really really doesn't matter. At all. Bunch of bloody drama queens 8)

I have a Wahler thermostat on mine ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-OMEGA-VECTRA-SINTRA-SIGNUM-CALIBRA-V6-THERMOSTAT-HOUSING-NEW/370148171910? _trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3Db36ad3a3bd064a08901aa853f0c7cdeb%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D201247912007 ) that is clearly the GM part. Even the photos show the half-hearted attempt to grind the GM logo off it. I didn't bother with the transfer tube and was lucky enough to separate it from the old stat without too much trouble.

Yep Wahler stat here too and you can split the stat and transfer tube if you are careful, but for £15 or thereabouts it's best to get one, as you have it if you oops up!  :y  Comes with 2 new O rings as well.  ;)

AC Delco here, just to be different... still has the GM part number and logo on it ::), shipped from Jacksonville Fl for half the price of a Vx sourced one.

And it fitted perfectly without any washers or other improvisation  ;D

I fitted a genuine GM stat to mine (bought from Evans Halshaw)

The original 2003 stat had a thick flange, the replacement a thin flange.

VX parts system said I would need new bolts, I decided not to order them ::)

A handful of 8mm washers did the job nicely :y
