If you carnt get it done under warranty Lizzie, its not too bad, about £30 ish iirc from the stealers.
I guess from previous replies it must be best on a V6 to change them from above......my hbv was changed from underneath.......tho it was dangling 6ft up in the air and only took about 10mins.
Thanks Taxi Driver! I have already decided on following the excellent HBV replacement guide on this site which is from above as I do not have a garage ramp. As far as I can see I can do no better than that.
And I have a TC!
If I can avoid it nowadays I tend to avoid working underneath the car if at all possible, which it wasn't two years ago when I had to replace a full set of brake pipes on a Toyota. It horrifyingly reminded me of when I was younger always seemingly crawling around, often in the dark, under cars, and steam engines, getting covered in crud! Yuk!

It was somehow, different when we were younger though.

Too true it was mike; I was small enough to slide under a car without jacking it up. Now I have to jack it up 3 feet on blocks!

I just take my 2.2 to my local backstreet garage........they lift it up 6ft in the air.......then i can get under it

The garages around here wouldn't give you sod all
; they just charge the earth and quote H & S to you.

I tried to work on my old car to correct "failure" points for an MOT on one of their forecourts, but was told firmly "No madam, due to H&S you will have to do it (the brakes) in the road". I did and it passed, but I tell you they give us nothing but the bill! Rant over!

My local one.......and i'll mention the name.......coz he's good...is .......

Or perhaps not......coz of the following.........

H&S ........hes never heard of it

Lets you wander around the garage as you please
Smoking in the garage........is allowed

And ive worked on my 2.2 in his garage.........but i let him change the oil/filter........coz he gets rid of the old oil.......plus i carnt be bothered
