Gutted!
« on: 24 December 2015, 21:10:27 »

As some may have seen in the "Where to buy a decent Elite" thread in General help, I was the highest bidder on eBay action for a nice looking 3.2 Elite only about 6/7 miles from me.

I decided for the money, to take a punt without seeing it. (I couldn't view before end of auction, I was abroad).

Before the auction end, the seller was very helpful and friendly, which inspired confidence. After I won, he was also prompt to reply. We arranged  yesterday (23rd) that I would visit him after work today (24th), sort payment and paperwork, and then we would arrange to pay a local chap ( a pre agreed price of £50) to trailer it to me - thus avoiding the need to sort insurance and MOT etc.

I messaged the seller when I landed in the UK at 2000 hours last night to let him know I was home. I've sent him a couple of messages today asking for details (address and time) for logisitics, and leaving my number.

I haven't heard a Dickie bird, all day.

I'm not having a go at him as such, he was very helpful and may have had a genuine emergency or something today - it just seems odd that, on the day of doing the deed, I've not had any contact at all, not even a brief text to say there's an issue and he needs to rearrange.

As such I'm left not knowing if the transaction is still "on" or not. The recovery guy has also potentially lost out, both from other business he could have had tonight, and from this sale.

Grrrr!!!!!!! I have also not gone out all evening in case he called! I know people are busy on Christmas Eve, but, it was pre agreed, so I would have hoped for a message of some sort.

Most of all, I don't know if I'll get my Elite anymore! Thankfully I have not handed over any hard earned......

Unfortunatley James one of perils of buying from an auction site.  When the seller leaves a contact no. for questions (if he did) then as soon as auction is over , more so if the price was lowish, the seller gets flooded with calls from other buyers, offering more than the selling price. Had it happen to me on more than one occasion . Hopefully this may not be the case for you  & this deal . Bit out of order if it is  though , as you agreed & had put things in place for collection etc. Fingers crossed for you mate

Are you suggesting I'm an arse? Or that I think people stupid enough to use egay deserve all they get?

If so, correct on both counts ;D ;D ;D

Mr V6CDX, hope it works out for you, but you know it won't, as egay is universally full of selfish idiots who do not believe the rules apply to them.

There, that was almost sympathetic.

Nothing yet!

I will instead spend the funds on WIM treatment and a few bits on the 530d!

I'd agreed to by  fl 3.0 estate a few weeks ago but the bloke went away for 2 days and no contact. When he contacted me he told me that his wife had sold the car to someone else while he was away :( :( :(

What do you expect from buying summat on Christmas eve ::) Seller could be away for a week, and whilst it's rude not to let you know, I wouldn't be to keen to advertise the fact either...

I would usually wholeheartedly agree.

But what I'm saying is we mutually PRE AGEEED, on a previous date, to do the transaction and collection on the 24th, because Christmas Eve worked for us both. I would never *expect* it on Christmas Eve, but when someone agrees it, and doesn't honour it with no word of explanation, that's a bit odd, no? If he was away Christmas Eve, why would he agree to meet up on that date?

Maybe his mate popped round and they had a bevvy or two and he forgot... Or maybe his parents house has been flooded and he's been a bit distracted... ::)

I know when I sold my 2.6 on the bay in November I had people messaging me to end the auction early, also contacting me at the end of the auction offering more than the final bid to do the dirty on the winning bidder , I told them exactly what they could do with their ideas, perhaps your seller has been swayed like this I hope not though .
