Whats better, the higher number at 3000: or the lower nuber at 1000:1

The higher number for contrast ratio....although it is nothing to do with black levels!

It also depends how they measure it!

Hi,

The 2408WFP is the better monitor of these two.  The E2408WFP is a value (cheaper!) monitor which is missing a lot of the features of the 2408WFP

If my understanding is correct the contrast ratio is the amount of reflectivity back form the screen. The higher the number the more contrast you will get from the screen. most of the really good ones can be placed outdoors on a sunny day and you can sstill see the picture.
On an old CRT screen if you had it facing the window then on a bright day you would see very little.
The 5ms or 6ms refers to the response time of the monitor this is how fast the screen can react to changes in what is being fed into it. If you have a fast moving object move across an LCD screen you will notice a blur around the edges. the faster the response time the less the blur.
Here the lower the number is the better, although between 5 and 6 you will not really notice the difference.

I have had a Dell 19" Ultra Sharp for about 4 or 5 years now and paid £450 for it off a guy on Ebay (All brand new, warranted, invoced etc)

So I being 100% happy with the one I have (Allthough I am am aware they are rebranded to sell as Dell) and buying the better of the options last time round.

Am now ready to upgrade, so as I do a lot of spread sheet work  I want to go for the higher resoloution, My Laptop displays 1600x1200 so that has to be the minmum standard now.  The 22" screen dont go that deep so 24" it is, considered 27 and 30 inch models but cant justify the cost.

Whether or not I go for 1 or 2 24" screens wont make any differnce to usage as I will still have the 19" Dell connected if I only get 1 new one.

Very tempting for 2 Acers as it it's going to cost the same money for 1 Dell.

Just checked out the guy I bought my last one off, still selling Dell and with 3 Year warrantys, dead pixel gaurantee, next day delivey and change from £400

Seem to be talking myself into the Dell.

Where I work we have 150 Dell Monitors and 5 Acers.

We have swapped out 4 Dells over the last 2 years.
3 of the Acers arrived with dead pixels but not enough to warrant a return.

If they were the choices and I wanted reliability then I'd go for Dell. If I really needed 2 monitors and was happy with a lower quality then I would reluctantly go for the Acer

Choice now is 1 Dell, or sod the extra and have 2 X LG's

Dont need them yet, so still doing home work.

Video is a 768MB 8800GTX so no worries there.
