vectra B headlights
« on: 05 January 2016, 13:52:46 »

Long shot I know, but by any chance are the vectra b xenon headlight motors and level sensors the same as the omega ones? Thinking that as they are the same age car I might be lucky.
Cheers

Was hoping for a bit of luck, think it's on an x plate and its giving headlight range warning on the vectra. Lights move up and down when you first turn them on then they move all the way down, vibrate, move back to centre and the warning light comes on. Sensors are attached, so to me it seems likely it will be a sensor fault. Can't seem to find anyone breaking a vectra that has the sensors on it still but I think I can get some from a cdx omega but it a way away so didn't want to waste a trip if anyone knew they were different.

Are you sure it isn't damaged adjusters in the lamps? Very common problem

Headlight motors on the Vectra B's are smaller than the Omega motors... sorry fella...

BUT

Your problem sounds more like a sensor to me too, as the motors are proving they are working (by moving) and they are resting in a place that they are being told to by the sensors/ECU...

Very possibly just the sensor on the font N/S wishbone is either missing its arm or just goosed... the sensors though are universal throughout the Vx range :)

Cheers, fairly sure the motors/adjusters are fine as the lights motor up and down when you first turn them on.
Arms are attached, going to try disconnecting and moving them today to see if the lights move.

Looking for some inspiration with this one as the headlights apparently need to come out to get to the motors.
As previously mentioned, both lights move down and up when you turn them on, but only the left one moves up and down when you move the arm on either the front or rear sensor arm.
I don't understand how only one moves with the sensor if they both move when turned on.
As the fld/beam warning is on would tech2 give an answer as to the fault, would it know if it's a motor or sensor fault, although as it's not taxed  and mot'd I will struggle to get it read as can't be driven.

Any ideas why they both move initially but then the divers one falls would be great.

Cheers, Al

I'm guessing that the quick up and down at startup is a self test, and one of the headlight motors fails this and is then driven to a safe position and ignored while the other is still working.

Tech 2 will give you a fault code, assuming you've got a "Low beam fld/vision" warning on the MID. Most likely issue is that the motor's seals have failed and the insides have gone rotten though.

Have a motor or two here if required ;)

Also, a little known fact that Omega headlamp motors are the same as some VW ones. Indeed my ones are identical to my MK3 Golf ones other than the back cover is different. However, that simply clips off and swaps over.

Got my wires slightly crossed... if you can confirm that Vectra b motors are the same as Omega then we can go from there :y
