Corsa d dipped beam
« on: 17 February 2016, 19:17:00 »

Has anyone else had the pleasure of replacing the H7 bulb (nearside) on a Corsa d. Let me tell you it hurts, first you need hands the size of a 3 year old and  the skin of a Rhino!
I ended up taking half the bumper off and removing main light cluster to a degree just to replace bulb, this has to be the most stupid ,rubbish design GM has ever developed

Now.......on my FRENCH Renault, you undid two screws and the whole light unit slid forwards, exposing the back of the cluster. Still, it was French, so obviously shit.

Seems to be an increasingly common thing that to replace a bulb you need to remove the headlamp and to do that on a lot of cars you have to loosen/remove the bumper :( I think it's to do with trying to fit ever more stuff under the bonnet for crash protection/pedestrian safety etc.

Gm + other makes seem to try and force you to the main dealers for simple things like a dead bulb!

This is the reason 1 in 20 cars you meet at night has a headlight bulb dead.

More like 1 in 10 round here I reckon.. Saw one the other night on the motorway with just an offside sidelight and nearside fog lamp working!

Not to worry, I'm sure the new speed cameras they're fitting on the side of every gantry will catch him. Oh. Wait..

I can do a corsa d bulb in about 5 minutes from opening the bonnet to closing it again - however you do get used to ripping your hands open.

I would rather change a bulb by taking the headlight out any day of the week.  Most newer Volvos/fords/land-rovers the headlights come out with a couple of stakes or at most 2 screw/bolts and makes access so much easier and the car/headlight less prone to damage.

What I will say is that all manufactures should be obliged to provide enough space around the headlight that you are able to change  the bulb by the side of the road in the peeing down rain, however they will all argue that they cant do that due to packaging etc.

Changed two sidelight bulbs today on the Saab (GM era) by removing both headlights.  Took me 15 minutes, and I wasn't racing.

No bumper removal, no pissing about cutting my hands.  If only GM took more notice of how a car 'should' have been built rather than penny pinching.
