Pleasantly surprised by the Disco this afternoon
« on: 02 March 2016, 16:06:24 »

Well I ain't touched my Discovery since about November last year due to work commitments, weather, and illness. So today I went in the garage thinking 'the battery is gonna be flat' put the key in, cranked it and it coughed into life straight away  :) :) :) :)

Gonna spend some time on it this week I think (seeing as I'm on forced leave   ::) ::) ::) ) see what else I can get done.

Been working on the wife's TD5 Auto since last November when the flex plate went (when I was driving) found out the Transfer box was not turning, hope the Auto box is still OK, will find out this week when I have out it all back.
It's had a few new bits in the last weeks
Steering box from Adwest
Air-con condenser
Power steering pipes
Another transfer box I had in the garage
H/duty flex plate from Ashcroft
Oil and filter change in Auto box
New exhaust :y

So far on mine I've done

Rear - new shock absorbers, new springs, anti-roll bar bushes, wheel bearings, discs & pads.
Front - New shock absorbers, New springs, anti-roll bar bushes, wheel bearings, new swivel joints/bearings, discs & pads.

Full polybush kit, a right pita to fit too  ::) ::) ::)

New exhaust system from fanimold - tail pipe.

Got a few oil leaks Land rover self preservation bits to plug  ;D ;D ;D Then sort out the camshaft which is causing a little rattle when cold.

I was gonna do the heads but I'm in 2 minds, they don't leak anywhere, performance was good whilst on the road  :-\ :-\ :-\

My main worry to be honest is a 'clunk' when selecting 'D' or 'R' I've got a good idea what it is and if I'm right I could end up removing Autobox & transfer box to rectify the problem  >:( >:( >:( I'm 95% sure its the input / output shaft coupling from the tail of the autobox to the transfer box. The splines wear due to (would you believe it) lack of lubrication  ;D ;D ;D and the only way to solve it is new input gear & output shaft.

After the 3 months the TD5 has been off the road due to the flex plate saying goodbye, I had her running yesterday a few times to pump new oil around the auto box, was going well until it got up to the cooler only to find the stress fracture I was hoping I had not done, but with my luck it was pissing out all over the drip try I had put there, cos in the back of my mind I knew it was going to leak. Have got one coming from the bay of flea for £35 posted.

Job for next weekend as back on duty in the morning for another round of 4x12 hour shifts.

Only jobs left now is fit said oil cooler, fill both axles and fit two cross members finish filling gearbox and see if it will drive. Fingers and everything else crossed or I'm in it deep with SWMBO.
