The estate where my girlfriend lives is habitually littered with rubbish, mainly because the wind knocks bins over and then spreads it about. People aren't allowed to bungi the bins shut, because it's too much work for the bin men. It's also caused by proximity to a local shop, so people buy drinks and snacks and by the time they've finished them it's just about near my girlfriend's house so just gets dropped.

Several times I've gone round with a litter picker and people look at me like I'm mad, and the next week it's back to looking like crap again.

Most people don't have pride in where they live anymore.

But the main thing that needs doing is less packaging and more bins.

Bought some burgers the other day for a bbq. MASSIVE packaging about twice the size needed.

Like my next door neighbour who habitually puts non-recycling in his recycling bin, so that hasn't been emptied in months (they have stuck labels on it explaining why, he takes them off, rams more in, they've written to him etc).
Now he just dumps everything next to the bin.
Which he leaves out in the "visitor parking" area at the end of the cul-de-sac.
Which happens to be right outside my front door.

Current occupancy:
Many beer bottles
A fridge/freezer drawer
The box from a four-rotor drone
The box from a golf caddy
And whatever has blown out of his bin

Sounds like posting it back through his letter box might be an idea

Our council would warn him then fine him and, if he didn't pay, take him to court. Seen it done.

Start complaining and asking how they would view it if everyone started behaving in the same manner. Or just go down one night and chuck it all on his doorstep. Yes...do the latter and report back when you get out of hospital.

Round my way people do actually get done for dropping fag butts, usually in the shopping precinct that has CCTV. The real messy litter is the stuff that get thrown out of car windows, usually McDs or similar. They don't get nicked

My Mrs is a bit evangelical about litter. Picks stuff up and puts it into bins. Yes we do have quite a lot of bins that do get emptied

Yep. Saw a whole tray of Mc'D's crap fly out of the window of a white van the other day.

They cause such a large proportion of the total litter you see.

Another bugbear of mine is council bins that get left so full that the contents blow all over the place. "We pay our council tax...", etc..

Of course, packaging in general makes up the bulk of all litter. Very strict where I am about recycling, and we do everything right ( I think  ) We fill 4 or more Blue recycle bags that get collected every 2 weeks. All packaging of some kind. My empty wine bottles get taken to the bottle bank

Councils, have started to remove litter bins for "cost savings" why not just reduce the top brasses'  wages, be a bigger saving

It's a bug bear of mine to see pigs dropping litter. Do people not care about crapping on their own doorstep. Then they're the first ones to complain they live in a shite hole.

It's all relative though i suppose. I mean yes I assume the bulk of litter is dropped by younger folk. But the older generation gave us Tony Blair. So good and bad to every generation I suppose lol

Starts in school - staff employed to pickup rubbish after break and lunch. Starts young people off with the idea that you drop it and someone else picks it up.

People throwing cigarettes out their vehicles annoys me. Had one the other week it was still glowing as it left the car and somehow bounced onto my windscreen...... At least put the bloody thing out before throwing them if their going to do so or preferably shove it in the ashtray!
