Audi A8 pros & cons
« on: 19 March 2016, 07:36:56 »

Hi all
anyone had one of these A8's ? . Looking at a '53 plate 3.0 petrol .  What are the points to look out for?

Seem to remember reading  that big Audi's are notorious for shag*ing suspension quickly ?

Any tips good or bad ?  what is your opinion  . . .would you have one or is the "barge pole " quote going to be used ?  ;D

TIA   Al

No. No. And, did I mention no?

Cambelt involves removing the front of the car. Body repairs are stupidly expensive as they're aluminium. This is also a good thing as they don't rust.
Suspension makes the Omega look unfussy, four wheel drive, so potential for changing all four tyres at once.

Not to be confused with a long wheelbase, badge engineered Jetta ::)

The alloy suspension corroded around the steel bolts, cam belt as teleporter says is front off,day job, basically, you want good history, cambelt replaced, no knocking suspension. O it's a V8.

It's the age old story.

A large luxurious and expensive car falls within our grasp as depreciation takes hold.

We then buy this once £40,000 car for a couple of grand.

What's the worst that can happen? ::) ::) ::) ;)

But it's made in Germany, Al.

So......it will never break down, rust, or need expensive repairs. ::) ::) ::) :)

They are nice when it's all working properly if you can stand the dungeon like interior.

It's typical high-end German engineering: complicated, fussy, maintenance unfriendly, expensive and utterly intolerant of abuse or neglect. Absolutely stuffed full of interconnected electrical systems too. As a friend says of his S6 If it says Bosch on it, it WILL go wrong

Always quite fancied one of the earlier 4.2's but people keep asking what for me seems stupid money even with statship mileage. As said suspension seems to be a major bug bear on them.

Watched a tv show some months back where they were breaking one of these, a new drivers seat apparently costs around £3,000 with all the electric gizmos, other parts are very expensive, but secondhand parts are plentiful , personally if it comes with a good history I would take a chance.

There cant be anyone who has seen Ronin* that doesn't want a first generation S8.

I nearly got one before I first bought the MV6 (nine ears ago!)... then got quoted £ 10k to insure it!

With my insurance quote for a 1.4 astra being over £500, I don't think I'll bother with a V8.  :(

I do three times that mileage and my car is parked on the street.
