It's not the most planted of cars, though. I've driven better cornering hovercraft.

You get what you pay for, I suppose. Let's say I'm really pleased with it considering we only paid £12,900 for it new. I wouldn't pay the £17,000 odd list price. As a daily commuter for the wife, it's ideal and, I must say, it coped admirably at motorway speeds, much better acceleration than my asthmatic 1.4 astra.

Spend £12k get 60mpg or spend £2k and get 25mpg. 

Or LPG you £2k car and get ~55mpg cost on the Wallet.
