If you have a good look at it then it will become clear  ;)

But... Ideally empty of fuel. Disconnect pipes and electrics to sender unit under the access plate. Disconnect filler neck if you can, if not be aware that you will need to. Undo straps. Don't forget the vent pipes ;)

You can drive around untill it's almost all gone :)

Joking aside , disconect the fuel line in front of the fuel filter, turn the contact key on (not on 'cranking' but just to ignite all the dash bulbs) and wait till it drains most of the fuel (dont drain absolutelly all fuel, leave several liters in, to avoid unnecessary damage of the pump).

PS. you might need to connect the car to the power grid via battery charger.

I might be wrong but seem to remember that doesn't work on the 2.6, 3.2, plus as you say, if it does, you run the risk of burning the pump out.

last time I did it, I used a Jiggler hose (about £8), they fit straight into Omega tank, and emptied the tank into containers relatively easy, filtered the fuel and reused it.  ;)

It won't work because, unless the engine is running, the fuel pump doesn't run for more than a few seconds.

The fuel pump will be quite happy emptying the tank, however, because it runs constantly with much more load when the engine is running. The best solution is to remove the fuel pump relay and bridge the connections with a wire, or remove the cover from the fuel pump relay and press the contacts together until the fuel has been pumped out.

If theres only a few gallons in the tank, just drill a hole on the bottom and collect it in containers.
Otherwise, you could take the top plate off, and access it from the boot. Then siphon it out with a longish length of hosepipe.

Well i've been outside all day and got the new tank fitted and all up and running. It went quite well really except for pulling the fuel line off the tank which was awkward but luckily didn't break, plastic over rubber probably a special tool to get them apart.
